Coming Fury

The surfers and sunbathers
blew away with the wind.
Footprints marked their exodus
in the face of the storm.
White-capped waves charged the beach
as the sky turned black and blue.

it is the ocean that washes us,
the ocean that cleans away our shame
    that offers no escape
that leaves us sitting at the edge-
    realizing infinity.

and truly it is desire to be the
    sky turned black and blue
    charging the beach
